UNIDO’s participation was mainly driven by its Energy projects’ objectives which work on promoting Energy Efficiency and Energy management in the Egyptian Industrial Sector. UNIDO’s projects also work on developing the local market’s use of energy to mitigate the greenhouse gas emissions and safeguard the environment in Egypt. This was accomplished and wrapped up by Dr.Gihan Bayoumi’s (UNIDO’s National Programme Officer) participation in the panel entitled “Financing Energy Efficiency Project” which was moderated by Eng. Ahmed Abdrabo, Assistant Chief of Petroleum Central Department at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources-MoPMR. Dr.Gihan’s discussions in the panel tackled vital points such as; the importance of fostering and boosting awareness on the privileges of implementing Energy Efficiency, the importance of having both local and international funding resources, and hammering on UNIDO’s available revolving fund services to bring Energy Efficiency up to pace in the Egyptian market.

This has been complimented by the conference’s main goals to build bridges and connect the international cooperation agencies, the financing institutions, the technology developers and the national Energy Efficiency service providers.

Especially that H.E Eng.El-Molla highlighted during his welcome speech that the ministry has adopted diffusing Energy Efficiency across the petrol sector with specified annual targets to save energy and use it efficiently. H.E also added that the conference represents a golden opportunity for exchange of perspectives and presenting best practices for encouraging Energy Efficiency midst the global economic constraints and that the conference aims to pinpoint clear goals to achieve in this realm throughout the coming few years.
