The Egyptian Program for Promoting Industrial Motor Efficiency Conducts a Workshop entitled Potential Coalition Opportunities Aiming to Boost the Efficiency of Electrical Motors in the Industrial Sector and Support Local Manufacturing

On the 28th of November 2022, the “Egyptian Program for Promoting Industrial Motor Efficiency” which is being implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Trade and Industry and funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) conducts a workshop entitled “Potential Coalition Opportunities Aiming to Boost the Efficiency of Electrical Motors in the Industrial Sector and Support Local Manufacturing”.

The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Ahmed Reda, the Associate of the Minister of Trade & Industry and the Executive Director of the Technology & Industrial Innovation Centers, and Dr. Ahmed Huzayyin the Manager of Eco-industrial department at Chemonics Egypt Consultants. Eng. Yahia the technical expert from UNIDO and Dr. Mohamed Shalaby sustainable energy expert from Chemonics Egypt then exhibited the project’s work stages, activities, and what has been accomplished, the post-decree updated market status and dynamics, untapped energy-saving opportunities in electric motor systems with focus on the Egyptian industry, and how to determine their financial and technical feasibility. Energy-saving opportunities that do not require high investments or include small and medium investments were also presented while promoting for available financing mechanisms to support the industry and energy efficiency. The business model for (ESCO) companies that provide energy efficiency services was also presented. Then frameworks to qualify the ESCO companies and measurement and verification services (M&V) were also presented to help pave the pathway for them to work in the Egyptian market.

The workshop also shed light on the available financing mechanisms that support the industrial sector, local manufacturing, and energy efficiency that was introduced in the presence of representatives from the financial institutions that finance local manufacturers and factories wishing to purchase high-efficiency motors through soft loans or partial grants. The National Bank of Egypt (NBE) also presented the financing schemes that they provide to the sector.

The workshop was concluded as business-to-business networking activities that aimed to build bridges amongst attendees who were comprised of suppliers and manufacturers of high-efficiency motors, industrial facilities, financing institutions, and energy efficiency consultants took place.
