Sidpec and UNIDO Conduct a Workshop for Networking & Exchanging of Energy Efficiency Experiences in The Petroleum Sector

In line with the guidance and support of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and The Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM), Sidi Kerir Petrochemicals Co. (Sidpec) collaboratively with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) organized a workshop chaired by engineer Mohamed Ibrahim, chairman and CEO of (Sidpec) for networking and exchanging the energy efficiency experiences in the petroleum sector on Wednesday the 8th of February. The workshop was attended by Engineer Ahmed Abd Rabu the Energy & Environment Consultant at the Ministry of Petroleum & Mineral Resources along with a number of petroleum pioneering enterprises and members of the supreme committee for energy efficiency and its technical secretariat.

This event was carried out within the framework of the peer-to peer networking partnership between UNIDO and Sidpec that aims to foster energy efficiency and renewable energy in the petrochemical and plastic industries.

The workshop was steered by UNIDO, Sidpec and Chemonics Egypt representatives. UNIDO’s attending representative exhibited the holistic approach of UNIDO and the activities executed through its projects, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources presented some of its energy efficiency projects and Sidpec also displayed its activities with UNIDO through its partnership and elaborated to attendees from the petroleum sector including representatives from companies under the umbrella of The Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM) who witnessed the timeline of these activities. This is because these activities aim to provide capacity building and technical assistance through Sidpec’s local energy experts accredited from UNIDO. The energy experts focus on boosting the energy efficiency through pinpointing energy saving opportunities, highlighting the salience of energy management system implementation, and providing reposrt on motors system optimization, compressed air optimization and pumps system optimization. In addition to providing manufacturing enterprises with building capacity, technical assistance, energy audits and feasibility studies from international consultants to clarify saving opportunities and how to install and maintain solar water heaters through international energy experts accredited by UNIDO.

The workshop was concluded through holding a segment for round table discussions and networking amongst the leading individuals in the petroleum sector and the workshop’s facilitators to allow attendees to know more about the partnership’s activities and how to optimize the benefits that attending factories may obtain.
