Throughout the past years there has been an amplified interest in the provision of energy services to attain environmental and energy goals globally. Stemming from that, new companies providing energy services to final energy users, including the supply and installations of energy efficient equipment, and/or the building refurbishment, have started to strongly exist and operate on the European market.

Hence, within the framework of the “Egyptian Programme for Promoting Industrial Motor Efficiency” that is implemented by UNIDO collaboratively with the Egyptian Ministry of Trade and Industry and funded by Global Environment Facility (GEF), the fourth working group was held on the 9th of October 2022 at the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) premises.  The meeting aimed at developing the best practices and business models for the inception and feasibility of developing ESCOs and Measurement and Verification (M&V) services in Egypt. The workshop also entailed the inception of the qualification and certification scheme for the ESCOs and M&V frameworks. The project also aims to develop meticulous guidelines to pave the way for the application of these services in the field of high-efficiency electric motors.

The working group was comprised of representatives from all walks of life including representatives of key decision makers, the banking sector, the private sector and energy consultants to conduct fruitful dialogues to exchange notions around the different ESCOs business models. Discussions also tackled the proposed framework for the qualification and certification of ESCOs and M&V services.
